Practical answer
Why are olive trees not fruiting in a Cyprus home garden?
An olive tree can look healthy and still fruit lightly. Common reasons include age, variety, pruning timing, too much shade, water stress at the wrong time, poor flowering, or simply alternate-bearing behavior where heavy and light crop years vary.
Start by checking whether the tree flowers, whether flowers set fruit, and what changed around pruning, watering, and sunlight.
What to check
- Is the tree mature enough to crop, or still establishing?
- Does it flower, and do flowers drop before fruit forms?
- Was it pruned hard before flowering or repeatedly clipped for shape?
- Does the canopy get enough direct sun?
- Is watering extremely irregular during flowering and early fruit set?
Do not overcorrect
- Do not fertilize heavily just because there is no fruit.
- Do not remove large branches without understanding the flowering cycle.
- If the tree is ornamental, confirm whether fruit production is actually the goal before changing care.
